”When God made Gloria, he thought of David”
Having been born and spent their early years on different continents, the main characters of this love story didn’t start their tale with fights in the playground as toddlers or sweethearts at the high school prom.
David's story
David Ivar Evald Åsberg was born and raised in Forsheda, a small village in the deep forests of Småland Sweden. Building with Legos as a kid he early on developed his love for creating and designing. In 2009, he moved to Jönköping to study his bachelor in Engineering. He then later on moved to Stockholm to work as a construction engineer. His passions include seeing the wonders of nature, playing video games, music and watching the sunset with Gloria.
Gloria' story
Schiller Gloria Matovu was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda. She made her way to Sweden in 2010, settling at first in, surprise, Jönköping. Gloria studied Nursing at Uppsala University, and then moved to Stockholm to work as an ICU nurse. Some of her many passions include travel, photography, music, football and most importantly, David.
The couple might have walked past each other in Jönköping, but stayed unaware of the other existence. Their paths finally converged in Stockholm, in the spring of 2019, through a mutual friend. David, taking the first step writing to Gloria, decided he would try his luck at wooing her with a lame joke; “Why can’t an eagle and an eel get married?” Gloria didn’t get the joke but his reply made her laugh: “Because it would be eeleagle". A couple conversations later on, and the two were scheduling their first date.
On their first date they strolled through the streets of Östermalm in Stockholm and ate some delicious sushi, chatting about their travelling experiences and dream destinations. They discovered they had both always wanted to visit Japan and hoped to do it together. Just like that, five months after their first date, they were in Tokyo, Japan together. Braving the colorful and weird streets of Tokyo, was the point they both realized, there is no one else they would rather be with or experience everything the world has in store for them.
July 11, 2019
2021 was the year David decided the time was right. As a surprise, David told Gloria they were going on a trip to an unknown destination for her birthday. On a dark and cold morning in November the couple took a flight to Santorini, Greece.
While in the alleys and balconies of Oia, taking pictures of the sunset, David stopped Gloria for a second. She was confused for just a few seconds, but quickly realized. Down on his knee, he popped the question, and she said "yes".
And here we are now😊
